I {Heart} This Girl Already!

Meet Amanda. She is my brother-in-law Adam's special lady. I haven't even met her yet and I already love her. Not only because Young's stick together, and whomever one Young loves we all love. But also because she is having pity on my home-color-gone-wrong soul. You see, Amanda is a hairdresser and it just so happens her and Adam are flying in from Utah this weekend to kick it with the fam. Amanda in all her goodness said she'd look at my new reddish-brunette self and see if anything can be done. Don't worry folks, we'll post before and afters, if I am indeed able to do something to change it!
P.S. Thanks to another girl I {heart} so much, Megan, for letting me steal a picture without even asking!

Curses to Clairol

So I'm pretty much REAL TICKED OFF right now. I don't do much for myself, but dang it, I like a good haircut and highlights. Well, given our current situation it doesn't seem right for me to go blow $100 on a haircut and color. But I haven't had my hair done since early December and well I was feeling like an ugly dog. So I thought I'd be a good little woman and do the right unselfish thing and try to go as cheap on my hair as possible and folks THIS IS WHAT I END UP WITH!!!! Does that look like Golden Honey to you?!!! I think not! I THINK NOT!!!!! Unselfishness is totally overrated. I should have gone and gotten a flippin' professional haircut. Luckily it's semi-permanent. So excuse me while I go wash my hair 28 times.

Sunday Series: CREATE

I've decided to start a Sunday Series of blog posts. It's known by most who read this that I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or a Mormon, as many call people of my faith. I have friends and family who read this blog that are not members of my church and are of different faiths. I am always curious to learn what others believe, and I've found that many out there are curious about my faith as well. So I thought on Sundays I would take the chance to share why I believe the way I do, things that ring true to my soul or things that inspire me. It's not meant to be preachy in any way, but more of a peek inside my brain. Enjoy!

This one inspires me!

Kiddie Conversations

The kids are sitting at the table right now eating strawberries and yakking back and forth to each other. Maryn just told Brynna "Strawberries are very healthy for you. See... (pointing at the seeds) they are full of Vitamin Seeds!" Haha, I think she meant Vitamin C. But I can see how Vitamin Seeds would make more sense to her than some imaginary, non-visible Vitamin C!

Barbie's Midlife Crisis

I grew up playing with Barbies. So one would think that I would be all about getting my girls in on the craze.... not so much. My mom told me that when Barbie dolls first came out my Nana thought they were a disgraceful toy. She wondered why little girls had put aside their baby dolls and instead of daydreaming of being mothers and nurturers they traded them in for the scantily clad little fashionista who served only self. It seemed wrong to her. Now that I'm a mom, I totally agree. And as I flipped through the newest Target ad, my decision to go Barbie-less in our house was reconfirmed to me a thousand times over.
I think her hoo-ha just fell out of this skirt.
A sappy quote on flyer says...
"Barbie turns 50! Celebrate five decades of fun and fashion with the original 'It' girl. From her famous face to her head turning style. Barbie is an inspiration to girls of all ages."

This was directly followed by an ad for the new 'Totally Stylin' Tattoo Barbie'. Gag me folks. A tatted up Barbie complete with extra tube top and mini skirt isn't exactly what I call an inspiration to girls of all ages. I'm fully aware that Barbie's schtick is that she's always changing to stay with the current trends. But let's be real, I'm not a big fan of current trends. Justin and I were laughing wondering what kind of awful Barbie they would conjure up next, 'Binge Drinking Barbie', 'Campus Slut Barbie', 'Full Body Piercing Barbie', 'I Kissed a Girl Barbie'. C'mon.

I wouldn't let my five year old look a Victoria's Secret catalog for some leisurely reading. But I'm supposed to let her play with this?

I'm stickin' with my Nana on this one. I'm gonna get on my soapbox and insist that we allow our daughters to be little girls! Imagine that! To have a childhood free of obsession over trying to be grown up before their time. Where there is innocence and wonder, and when they daydream and play, it will to be someone who makes a difference far beyond a fashion statement. A teacher, a nurturer, a doctor, a scientist, a musician, or perhaps the one closest to my heart, a mother. Someone who truly deserves to be called 'an inspiration to girls of all ages.'

Our Little Artist

Maryn LOVES writing little love notes and drawing pictures for us. We have them stuck to walls, hanging on the fridge and pinned to cork boards. I have some put away in folders for a nostalgic day years from now. Sadly though, there is no way I could save all of them because there are just so many! So I thought I'd post a few of her most recent ones that tugged at my heartstrings!
